Meet our featured artist, creator and fellow rock star, Tanya Godfrey – Artist, Creator and Owner of Daydreamer Creative Studio.

I came across Daydreamer Creative Studio on Instagram and fell in love with her bespoke wedding banners that she designs and hand makes personally for her clients. No banner is the same, they are all special and unique. Just like her couples.

Seeing her beautiful designs on Instagram sparked an idea to help me fulfill part of my mission. My mission is to create a community, share your stories and tips and tricks that will help you thrive in your business.

So please read below as I share Tanya’s story. Check out her beautiful wedding that launched her dream, be inspired by her craft and learn about what inspires her.

Please share your origin story of your business. You know, what was it that gave you the spark to begin creating?

So I’ve been creative and arty from a young child. I went to university and did a course in Fashion Design and then went to work as a designer in the fashion industry for 15 years. I got married back in 2019 and I DIY’d everything! Literally anything I could think of and do, I did it. Macrame pieces, wooden signage, dip dye tablecloths, made my own napkins, I painted my own jacket, created posters with our favorite music lyrics, made little banners. I had the best time doing this, literally all my spare time was making things for the wedding.

When Covid hit and I was on furlough, my wedding videographer Hushaby Films, asked me to help and style a wedding workshop she was doing in August 2020 and that’s where Daydreamer started. I created a huge banner and did some wooden signage, made posters and had the best time styling everything. From there it just hasn’t stopped.

My readers would love to hear what types of projects get you excited to create? Please share your favorite piece or project you have created. It can be something you created for yourself or for a client. What was it about that project or piece you made that it still holds such a special place in your heart?

Coming from my fashion design background, I love it when a couple sends over a mood board or inspiration that is just a little different and perhaps more personal to them rather than based on trends. I love creating something truly unique to them and their day! Another one of my favorite projects is creating elopement banners. I always think elopements are so intimate. They only bring the essentials with them and the fact they want one of my banners to take along, is just extra special.

Pictured is a photo of an elopement banner she made for a US photographer. So far the banner has traveled from Vegas to Scotland.

These days some times as creatives we can find ourselves hitting a wall. Please share with our readers what inspires you? How do you push through that wall?

My couples inspire me, I think everyone has their own ideas, it’s constantly pushing me to create something different for them. I love creating something new. I love knowing everything about them and their day to create something fresh.

We all have those things that we love about owning our own businesses. You know, the things that have us excited to start the day. What is your favorite thing about owning your own business and being your own boss?

I just love being able to design and then make something from scratch, I’m never just sitting in front of a computer like I was in my fashion job. I also think the big thing is how happy my couples are to see their designs and then the final piece. There is no better feeling!

When did you know that it was the right time to make the move into officially being your own boss?

This is so funny, I write this as it was exactly a year ago today that I handed in my notice at my fashion design job where I had been for 9 years. I had worked my way up to womenswear design manager and I had been doing Daydreamer alongside my full time job for the last 2 and half years! Working all the crazy hours in the evenings and weekends. Something just had to give. I came home one Thursday after a tough day and said to my husband, “I’m going to hand in my notice” and on Monday I did it! I think I had about 30 orders booked in for the rest of 2023 and since then to now, I have completed over 300 orders. I think I’ve just thought, if it doesn’t work out, I will just get another job and luckily I’ve not needed to do this.
